Do you teach your daughters as well as sons home maintenance and improvements?

Pascha asked:

These days more and more women need to be able to handle the care of a home on their own, because it is so expensive to hire someone for every little thing and because there is often no one else to do it. If there is a man around, he may not know how to do these things or even be interested in learning.
So, do fathers who know how to do these things now teach their daughters?

Normally, they do not appreciate, or do not like it and they never learn. I let them watch, hopefully when grow up they remember what to do. If you are lucky, they may also help you now.

My daughter is 3 and I always try to involve her with what I do around the house. My current project has been to gut her room to the studs and start over.

Of course I could not have her in there while tearing old drywall down and while installing insulation.

She helped me hang the new drywall by handing me the screws while I drive them. She is also good at putting mud in the pan from the bucket. For a 3 year old she sure is helpful. I have always tried to involve her so she can learn.

Someday I will take her with me to work on HVAC systems. I feel it is important to pass down my knowledge.

She even comes out with me in the middle of the winter to feed/water the cows.

I taught them everything I could — good thing too — their husbands were both born with 10 thumbs!
