   even those people who made the show probably just made the character like that with no possible reason.

   how would we know?

   His name was Wilson.

   And it was just a running joke.

   It started with the character, Wilson, always talking to Tim through the fence. It became an ongoing *** that they kept throughout the course of the show.

   His name was Wilson and one of the reasons they did that was a running ***! However, the main reason was because they were referencing how people never really know their neighbors. I read that in a magazine a few years back.
