Do you teach your daughters as well as sons home maintenance and improvements?

Pascha asked:

These days more and more women need to be able to handle the care of a home on their own, because it is so expensive to hire someone for every little thing and because there is often no one else to do it. If there is a man around, he may not know how to do these things or even be interested in learning.
So, do fathers who know how to do these things now teach their daughters?

Home improvement unlicensed contractor?

tigger13015 asked:

When we hired a contractor to do our work he said they were licensed and fully insured. Everytime I ask them to do something I’m being challenged or it doesn;t get done. It’s been difficult to deal with the contractor. I was pissed that I researched and found out they are not licensed. The work’s almost complete except for 1 thing and probably 2 other minor things. What should I do?
btw im from ny. you think telling them to leave and the problem would go away? they want to collect.
addition: we paid some but not final payment because they are not finished. We signed a contract under the impression they are licensed and they are not. I called the city and they said the contractor should not be working. He has applied for license but not official yet. The thing is this, they were sloppy, we have roof bits around the perimeter of the house because they couldn’t be bothered to use tarp. Then they argued with us when we asked to fix a step that was not leveled. They just recently fixed it. This what I mean when I say they challenge us.

I bought some 2″ wood blinds that the home improvement store wouldn’t cut?

Denise asked:

…and I need them cut an inch to an inch and 1/4 to make them fit in my window. What are the chances that their competitor would cut them? I’m not sure where to go to get them cut. Ordering the blinds custom would be nearly three times the amount that I paid for these. In case anyone is wondering, the blinds I bought are 2″ hardwoods, 72×72. I need them 71×72.

Thanks for any suggestions!
The only reason I didn’t go to the competitor in the first place is they didn’t carry the size I need — the closest they had was 66X72.
The reason, according to the salesperson, is they have had problems cutting the wood blinds before. If that was true, then why does it not say that anywhere? Personally, I think she didn’t want to do it. She didn’t seem really helpful or knowledgable.
