Home improvement Dry Wall question Please Help?

Okay so I scraped all the acustic off my ceilings and want to skim them out. I just finished a terrible part in the kitchen where I put in some drywall myself and it just took me forever to smooth it out. Now my hand is all cramped up and I feel I can’t go on so I thought I could buy a texture gun and spray the stuff up on the ceiling and then go with my big putty knife and smooth it all out. Could this work? I’m not sure if I’m doing it right but scooping the first layer of stuff up there and then scraping it off is really hard. So if anyone knows if this will work please let me know.
Yes I’m talking about the layers I’m putting up. Instead of rolling them on can I spray them on and then smooth them out?

We’re renting a house, and I want to fixup the bathroom and the kitchen, but all the home improvement and makeover sites I’ve been to only have stuff that I know I can’t and don’t want to do, so if anyone knows of any sites, or if anyone has any ideas of their own, I would appreciate it! I’m looking for things I can do myself.

A few random home improvement questions involving doorbells, mailboxes, etc?

I’m building a stucco security fence in front of my house and I need a doorbell that can be put at the fence entry and ring inside the house? Any recommendations?

Does anyone know of a mailbox that can be built into the fence that can hold large packages? I’m thinking of something where the postman would open the mailbox door (outside the fence) and drop a package/mail inside, and it would fall into a container or something that I could access from inside the fence…

Also, is it terribly complex/difficult to get a keypad entry to the gate?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Home Improvement People: Help Installing Chain Lock?

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008
AH08 asked:

Hey guys,

Help me out here. I’m installing chain locks on a couple of doors in my house and ran into a problem i’m hoping you guys could figure out. I installed one in the front door, and it was extremely easy with no problem (I installed the lock from the door to a frame that holds another window, ran into NO problem).

However, when installing the lock between the door that separates my bathroom and my backyard, I can’t seem to get the screws through. The problem is getting the screws through the wall (not the door). The screws easily go through the white plaster, but then get stuck after that. Any tips or suggestions?

Best,

Alan
More info: I’ve moved down two inches and it’s the same problem. Should I move left or right a bit? Is there a way I could find out where the wood stud is?
